Pinched Nerves

Pinched Nerves

The nervous system is actually two: the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system lives beneath the spinal cord and is what most people consider “nerves.” The thousands of peripheral nerves live all over the body like the ones in the fingertips, the toes, the knees, and more. Chiropractic Wellness Center in Newcastle WA would like for you to know more about a pinched nerve.

What Is A Pinched Nerve?

A nerve exists right alongside muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones. When an injury occurs, pain messages are sent to the brain along with the nervous system. The nerve could have been compressed or pinched by bones, tendons, or ligaments during an injury. Nine out of ten pinched nerves happen in the lumbar spine or the lower back.

Why Does Pain Occur Somewhere Else?

The body has its own system of checks and balances. Nerves on the right side of the spine control what happens to the left leg from the hip down and vice versa. If you have a pinched nerve in your wrist, for instance, then the pain might numb the hand and fingers. Your chiropractor will explain why the pain will stop when he adjusts the spine with the nerve pinch.

Causes

Several things cause nerves to pinch such as injury, obesity, sports injuries, rheumatoid arthritis or arthritis in the wrist, and repetitive work. Carpal tunnel is a popular place for nerves to pinch, but it usually only lasts a short period of time.

Symptoms

The signs you have a nerve pinched are numbness or less sensation in the area the nerve governs, or:

  • Sharp, burning pain which radiates outwards

  • Tingling

  • Weak muscles

  • A sensation of foot or hand “falling asleep”

Call Chiropractic Wellness Center Today!

Once your chiropractor sees the injury and the nerve pinched on X-rays or MRI, then he'll know how to adjust your spine to take the pressure off the nerve. This, along with exercises he'll give you, will return the spine or the injured body part to its normal function. Nerves, pinched or no, are nothing to joke about. Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "Dr. Maxwell and her team are really great. I love that she takes the time to really figure out what is going on with me and genuinely CARES about my health and well-being. I have been going to her for years. I had been hurting SO badly with chronic pain due to illness and debilitating migraines and she got me in right away, and adjusted me gently since it had been a while; even this gentle (but thorough) adjustment had me feeling 100times better than I've been for weeks. I can't brag enough. I have always felt so good after her adjustments. I'll be making the drive from Mukilteo to Newcastle just to continue to receive treatment from her and Dr Stephanie every week."
